One thing you may wonder about is how to thank someone for giving you the gift of money. Often with couples that are already living together before the wedding, a toaster or a set of cutlery is not a necessary gift. Thus instead of doing a wedding gift registry, the guests will contribute to the honeymoon or towards some other big-ticket item. How, then, do you thank guests for such a contribution? It seems easy to write “Thank you so much for the wonderful bread maker, we used it the other day and the whole house smelled wonderful.” But sometimes it can be awkward to reference money in a card.
One couple who received money towards their honeymoon in Scotland and Ireland handled it gracefully: they allocated a specific thing to each guest’s contribution, and thanked them for that. In other words, instead of “Thank you for the money,” they wrote “Thank you for the wonderful night at that sweet Bed and Breakfast on the highlands. The biscuits were the fluffiest we ever had, and the view from our window was just the best!” By giving each guest a feeling they had personally contributed to an individual experience, this couple made their thank you notes meaningful.
