5 Things Every Bride Should Do After Getting Engaged

5 THINGS EVERY BRIDE SHOULD DO AFTER GETTING ENGAGED

So you’re engaged? Congratulations! There's a lot of work ahead of you, so here are five steps to get you on a good start as you plan your wedding:

Make plenty of lists

Once you’re engaged, it’s important to keep your wedding planning as organized as possible. Make a list of music, decoration, and venue ideas. Create a spreadsheet for all the guests you want at your wedding and add or detract from it as you go. List all the vendors within your budget and narrow it down from there. Keeping spreadsheets of all your wedding ideas and plans from the very beginning will save you time and keep you and your fiancé on the same page.

Set the date for your big day

Picking the day of your wedding sets the time frame for all your wedding planning. Narrow it down by the season, day of the week, and any days that are particularly special to you as a couple. Once the date is set, whether it’s 3 months, 6 months, and over 1 year away, you can get rolling on your wedding planning.

Pick a theme, and just go with it

There’s no need to stress about your color palette or theme, and trying to make everyone happy with your decision will take the fun out of wedding planning. Just pick a style that represents you as a couple, and don’t give a second thought about what everyone else wants. After all, it’s your special day, and it’s all about you as a couple.

Order your invitations

Do you want to save the dates and a wedding invitation suite? Will you want to keep things sweet and simple with a single card? Are you wanting made-to-order or DIY invites? Pick out what you want as you set your budget, and order your invitations as soon as you and your fiancé set the date. You want to give yourself enough time to order or make the invitations, address them, and send them out with enough time for your guests to plan on joining you on your big day.

Seek out happily married couples

You’re going to get advice from all sorts of people, whether or not you ask for it. Avoid and ignore the people who say negative things about marriage – after all, you’re getting married because you’re choosing to spend your life with the person you love. Seek out a couple whose marriage is a picture of what you want for you and your fiancé. Ask them questions, take their advice, and follow their example. On top of your dream wedding, you want a marriage that is happy for a lifetime.

Hi, I'm one of the co-owners here at Wedding Bell Invitations. I have been involved with weddings and marriage for many years both as a wedding officiant and as a marriage counselor. I have a wealth of experience with every aspect of creating wedding ceremonies and have officiated in all types of settings and weather.

When my husband and I wanted to create an online business, we automatically gravitated to the wedding industry. I love paper and designing kits that are beautiful, affordable and easy to use. One of the most wonderful aspects of our business is getting emails with pictures of the beautiful invitations our customers have created and their joy in them-- to be a part of that process is one of my greatest pleasures!
